top ten tuesday

Woo hoo, first Top Ten Tuesday post of 2016 and better late then never, right? I recently started posting reviews again and am hoping to post 1 per week. I recently went from ‘undecided’ as my major to ‘pre-nursing’ so college is kicking my ass right now which is why my posts have kind of been few and far between this year. I really want to try to get at least 1 review posted a week though. I also want to do a Top Ten Tuesday every now and then and I really liked this week’s topic so here it goes…

Ten Books To Read If You Are In The Mood For X

X = Summer (surprise, surprise)

1.) Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

2.) Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland

3.) Nantucket Red by Leila Howland

There are obviously MANY more I could have included in this list. These are just some of my favorites that came to mind right away. I love love LOVE summer themed books so my Goodreads ‘Read’ list is filled with them.

(Two more I just thought of that I LOVED…

Between Us and the Moon by Rebecca Maizel

The Summer After You and Me by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski )

My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories

book review22.jpg

Title & Author: My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories Edited by Stephanie Perkins (All authors listed at the top of the book cover)

Publisher/Year: St. Martin’s Press/2014

Source: Publisher in Exchange for an Honest Review

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 4hearts*

*I definitely enjoyed some stories more than others. Some I would give a 5 heart rating to while others I’d give a 3, so I felt a 4 heart rating was fair since it was right in the middle.

What This Book Is About

If you love holiday stories, holiday movies, made-for-TV-holiday specials, holiday episodes of your favorite sitcoms and, especially, if you love holiday anthologies, you’re going to fall in love with My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories by twelve bestselling young adult writers, edited by international bestselling author Stephanie Perkins. Whether you enjoy celebrating Christmas or Hanukkah, Winter Solstice or New Year’s there’s something here for everyone. So curl up by the fireplace and get cozy. You have twelve reasons this season to stay indoors and fall in love.

(Summary from Goodreads)

My Thoughts on This Book

I would have loved to have had this review posted BEFORE the holiday but unfortunately I didn’t finish it until December 23 and I have a prior commitment to post a review on another book by December 25 at the latest.

As I said in the rating area, some of the stories I loved a lot more than the others. I would love to see some of these stories be made into a standalone novel, especially Rainbow Rowell’s, Kiersten White’s and Ally Carter’s. I will rate each of the stories individually, but they were all entertaining and fun to read especially with the approaching holidays.

Midnights by Rainbow Rowell: 5/5
The Lady and The Fox by Kelly Link: 2/5
Angels In The Snow by Matt de la Peña: 4/5
Polaris Is Where You’ll Find Me by Jenny Han: 3/5
It’s a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown by Stephanie Perkins: 3/5
Your Temporary Santa by David Levithan: 4/5
Krampuslauf by Holly Black: 3/5
What The Hell Have You Done, Sophie Roth? by Gayle Forman: 4/5
Beer Buckets and Baby Jesus by Myra McEntire: 3/5
Welcome To Christmas, CA by Kiersten White: 4/5
Star of Bethlehem by Ally Carter: 4/5
The Girl Who Woke The Dreamer by Laini Taylor: 2/5

I loved how the stories involved characters of all different races, backgrounds and even sexual orientations. They were all original and not your typical cookie cutter holiday romance stories. They also were mixed genres as well, some were contemporary and others fantasy. I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to every single reader who is into young adult fiction. It would also make an excellent gift if you have a young adult reader in your life. You can’t go wrong with this book during the holiday season. There is a summer themed one scheduled for publication in 2016, also edited by Stephanie Perkins but featuring 11 different authors that I cannot wait to read.

top ten tuesday

So yay I am so far staying on top of my Top Ten Tuesday posts! So far I am loving my new job and it has already given me so much extra time to read so I will be posting a book review tomorrow morning. I am so happy to finally get back to reading and posting like before. Anyways Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish who create a new topic for each week. This week’s topic is, Ten Books For Readers Who Like _________. Each blogger can choose what to fill in the blank with so I am choosing…

Ten Books For Readers Who Like Young Adult Romances

1.) The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han

2.) Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

3.) Moonglass by Jessi Kirby

4.) The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

10.) Between Us and the Moon by Rebecca Maizel *Expected Publishing Date 6/2015*

These are my top picks when it comes to young adult romance that I have read. Numbers 9 and 10 are not yet published and I was lucky to have a chance to read a review copy of each, but both were so good that they had to be on this list. I’ve posted a review on Wrong About the Guy and look for my review on Between Us and the Moon tomorrow morning! These are two 2015 releases you won’t want to pass up.

top ten tuesday

So I realize I’m posting this on Thursday March 5, but I am going to edit the publish date to Tuesday March 3 because I missed this Top Ten Tuesday and this is a week I didn’t want to miss. It’s definitely going to include some books that haven’t made any of my top ten lists before. As always Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is…

Top Ten Books You Would Classify as ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS From the Past 3 Years

1.) The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Okay so I went way past ten books but honestly how was I supposed to ONLY pick ten? I extended my list to thirty books, and they are in no particular order, I just only included pictures for the first 10. If someone asked me to fill a box with my favorite books from the past 3 years and give it to someone, these are the books I’d put in there. I know I have to be leaving some out too that I really enjoyed but I just currently can’t think of, plus thirty seemed like a good number to stop at.

Yay for a freebie week! Since this week we can choose any topic for our Top Ten Tuesday post I am going to do…

Top Ten Books I Want to See Made Into Movie

Of course we are talking in a perfect world where the movie would not butcher the book and would be absolutely perfect and not missing a single detail.

untitled 22550839 18460392 image 20894023

1.) Ruthless by Carolyn Lee Adams

2.) What Waits in the Woods by Kieran Scott

3.) All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

4.) Ten by Gretchen McNeil

6.) They All Fall Down by Roxanne St. Claire

7.) Compulsion by Martina Boone

8.) The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

9.) Creed by Trisha Leaver and Lindsay Currie

10.) The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O’Brien

And of course there were a few I had to leave out that didn’t make the top ten but deserve an honorable mention…

 15777797 20702025 13260536 22456909 20549288 12753231

8535449 20821376 16059149 7664334 18775628 18285437

And these last two would have made the top ten but they are currently being made into movies…

Top Ten Tuesday 11/18/2014

top ten tuesday

Wow so it’s been a couple of shaky weeks since the end of October. I go to college five days a week, had to unfortunately drop one of my five classes, and I had been working close to 40 hours a week. I apologize for not keeping up on my posts. I have read a good amount of books between then and now and will hopefully get around to posting a review on all of them. Of course after so long it is a little difficult to review a book but if it comes to that I may just do a post with the titles and my rating for those books. I need to start keeping a book journal again so I can keep track of what I read when I’m done each book. I promise there will be more reviews now. I finally got my hours cut back (and yes I am happy about that) so I have a good amount of time in between my classes and when I have to be at work.

Now onto this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. I really like the topic this week because I am big on series/trilogies, so there are a good amount of sequels I am looking forward to. I’m not going to keep this list exclusive to books that have not come out yet because there are quite a few sequels that have been published and I just haven’t bought them yet. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week’s topic is…

Top Ten Sequels I Can’t Wait To Get

1.) P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han – This is the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Loved the first book as well as Jenny Han’s other books as well.

15749186

2.) Fire with Fire by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian – Back to Jenny Han…I really liked Burn for Burn but haven’t had the chance to get Fire with Fire yet.

10662420

3.) Secrets and Lies by Jacqueline Green – Truth or Dare is definitely on my top ten list for this year and I am so anxious to read Secrets and Lies.

18431723

4.) Toxic (Pretty Little Liars #15) by Sara Shepard – I guess this isn’t considered a sequel but I’m still keeping it on my list. I am so happy that the series is finally coming to an end and cannot wait to see how it all ends.

18599776

5.) The Good Girls by Sara Shepard – Sequel to The Perfectionists and am sooo excited for this one to be released. I absolutely loved the first book and cannot wait to see where this series goes.

23171368

6.) Never Have I Ever (The Lying Game #2) by Sara Shepard – I started this series but have not got around to getting past the first book but I really want to read the whole series.

9266793

7.) The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin – I read the first book and was kind of confused but would love to reread it and then continue the trilogy because I hear so many good things about it.

13643567

8.) The Companion Novel to The Fine Art of Pretending by Rachel Harris – Not an actual sequel but I’m including it because it’s a companion novel and will have feature the same characters. I loved TFAOP and cannot wait for more.

17696131

9.) From Bad to Cursed by Katie Alender – I read Bad Girls Don’t Die a while ago and enjoyed it and would really like to read the other two in the trilogy.

9004758

10.) The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey – Loved, loved, loved The 5th Wave and cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel.

18249281

11.) Persuasion (The Heirs of Watson Island #2) by Martina Boone – I had to add a #11 because this is probably the most anticipated sequel on this list. Compulsion is so far my favorite book I have read in 2014 (or possibly ever) and so I am very excited for it’s sequel as well as the rest of the series.

20759498

This was actually harder than I thought. I own a lot of series or first books in a series that I haven’t read yet. I hate starting a series if I can’t continue it. I’m sure there is probably more I haven’t thought of but these are definitely the ones I am looking forward to the most.

top ten tuesday

I unfortunately missed out on last week’s Top Ten Tuesday which I am upset about because I really liked the topic. This week’s topic, Top Ten Books I Want To Reread, is a good one too because there is so many books that I would love to reread if I had the time. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Books I Want To Reread

1.) The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han – I have read and reread this trilogy countless amounts of times.

2.) Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler – Also have read this book so many times.

3.) Truth or Dare by Jacqueline Green

4.) Compulsion by Martina Boone

5.) The Bargaining by Carly Anne West

6.) Appaloosa Summer by Tudor Robins

7.) Liv, Forever by Amy Talkington

8.) Magnolia by Kristi Cook

9.) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

10.) Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

So that list was super easy to come up with. I know some people cannot or do not reread books but if I absolutely loved the book, I will reread it when I have some free time.

Top Ten Tuesday 08/26/2014

ttt

This week’s topic may be the easiest for me yet. It is going to include both published and non-published books because there are a lot of books that are coming out this fall, winter and next spring that I absolutely cannot wait to read but obviously do not yet own. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and their topic this week is:

Top Ten Books I Really Want To Read But Don’t Own Yet

1.) They All Fall Down by Roxanne St. Claire – This is my top most anticipated releases this fall

20527879

2.) Since Last Summer by Joanna Philbin – I own and have read the first and really want to read the sequel

wowsls

3.) Nantucket Red by Leila Howland – Same as above

18453185

4.) Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge – Has been on my TBR list for a few months now

15839984

5.) The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings – Has also been on my TBR list for a few months

13576132

6.) Broken Hearts, Fences and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn – I love summer based books

18525657

7.) P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han – Sequel to To All the Boy’s I’ve Loved Before (pic of book 1)

15749186

8.) The Perfectionists book 2 by Sara Shepard – Just finished an ARC copy of The Perfectionists and am in love (pic of book 1)

20549288

9.) Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas – Author of Dangerous Girls, need I say more

19732381

10.) Cruel Summer by James Dawson – Sounds amazing, have to order from Book Depository

16275049

There are so many more books that I really want to read but either don’t own the book or haven’t borrowed it from my library yet. These are definitely my top ten though and I am hoping to own all of them by the end of this year (they are all on my birthday/Christmas wishlist).

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I’d Give To Readers Who Have Never Read [BLANK]. I’m going to fill in the blank with… Young Adult Books. Since I mainly read YA books I wasn’t really sure what other topic I could have chosen. If I did thrillers or dystopians, I wouldn’t have ten to make a whole list so I will do a mix of young adult genres that I’d give/recommend to someone.

Top Ten Books I’d Give To Readers Who Have Never Read Young Adult Books

1. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han – A nice, light, summery contemporary book that is just so good.

5821978

2. Ten by Gretchen McNeil – A really well written YA thriller/horror novel and by far my favorite.

image

3. Liv, Forever by Amy Talkington – A really amazing YA mystery. Currently in my top 10 favorites, I could reread this over and over.

18077961

4. Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne – My favorite YA dystopian novel. So realistic it gives you goosebumps.

12753231

5. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – Because you need to cry a little when reading a book.

11870085

6. Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen – Everyone needs to experience a Sarah Dessen book and this one is so far my favorite.

9780142401767_KeepingTheMo_CV.indd

7. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – So original and has photographs that really make the characters come to life.

9460487

8. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson – Another amazing YA contemporary that is really popular.

7664334

9. Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas – Another great thriller although this features a female lead character.

18775628

10. I’m actually going to leave 10 blank. There are so many other YA books I’d recommend/give to someone who hasn’t read YA before, but I can’t just pick only 1 more.

I know these are probably not the most popular YA books and a lot of people wound probably recommend books like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games, but everyone has heard of them before. I’d recommend/give someone a stack of books that are really good and popular, but not ones that everyone has heard of. (The Fault in Our Stars being the only exception.)

Thank goodness for a super easy week for Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. So you’re probably wondering what is this week’s super, incredibly easy topic? Well this week’s topic is:

3.) Susane Colasanti (5)

9.) Deb Caletti (4)

10.) Nicole Polizzi (Snooki) (4)

0114f-snookibookcover-30p

An honorable mention that just missed the list:

-Abbi Glines (I have 2 paperback copies of her books & 3 Kindle versions)

16070903

Yes, yes, yes…I have four books written by Nicole Polizzi (Snooki) and yes I have read all four of them and am no ashamed either. I was a fan of both Snooki and the show Jersey Shore and am still a loyal fan of Snooki. If you want to judge me go ahead but seriously if you are, get off your high horse. (Baby Bumps was actually a really good book and gave you insight to a real pregnancy. She didn’t sugar coat it like most do, she told it how it is and I liked that she was so honest.) Rant done.

As for the rest of the books, I felt like Sara Shepard was a given. She’s written 17 books in the Pretty Little Liars series so far with one more coming this winter, and she also wrote The Lying Game series which I serious need to finish. I’d say about half of the author’s books that made my list, I haven’t even read yet. I will get around to it but as of now they are pretty low on my priority list.

Did any of the authors that made my list also make yours? If so which ones and how high or low on your list were they compared to mine?
